Work's still going good...this week was my first doing backups...problem is, it's the first week back from the holidays, so this is the most difficult week for it. It doesn't help when you go to the library's server room to swap tapes and you find that the server's missing! (luckily, I found it again)
I've finally got my bookmarks sorted out..whether I'm on Opera at home, Chrome at work, or Firefox at wherever I have a usb disk, my bookmarks are there. It seems odd using something other then Firefox after all these years..
.5 years ago I started using it, when it was still called Phoenix...it was a lite, speedy browser. I stayed with it, even when, in recent days, I've been wanting something that was, again, lite and speedy.I changed to using Opera at home when I ended up with a PC too useless to run Firefox comfortably, but I still preferred the good old burning vulpine.
But then, while at work this week, I tried chrome. I'm loving it. It's so fast to load and respond that I'm using my browser in ways I would not before, as I don't have that second or three lag things. I can comfortably think of something, do it, change my mind and change it back again.
-pressups: every day...I know they are not a balanced exercise, but it's quick and easy to monitor
-walking: do a minimum of 20 miles a week, with 20 mile weekends if I have time.
Long term goal is to walk marathon distances. Longer term goal is to do 160 mile journeys

First day at work, so far...not much happening. I've been given a login, but the login for the tools needed for the job I've been assigned have not come through yet. Not that there are any jobs in it's queue.
Oh well. It's given me time to mess about for a bit.
Wish I'd been put in the help desk instead though. I'm in engineering, it seems. The guy next to me did this job as his Networks placement. Thus, I'm a bit intimidated by the job, but hopefully I should cope.

SATURDAY 6th DECEMBER - Swarkestone Bridge
At 12 noon, Government forces will attack and occupy the Jacobite encampment, which will then be retaken by the reformed Jacobite army after an approach through Swarkestone village. After the defeat of the Government forces, Prince Charles Edward will review his troops, and then wreaths will be laid at the memorial cairn.
SUNDAY 7th DECEMBER - Derby (Wilmot St), Derby Cathedral, Jorrocks Inn
At 11am, Government forces will march and drill in the Cathedral Quarter.
11.30am, Jacobite army to gather at Wilmot St car park, for procession at 12 noon prompt.
12.15pm, parade reaches Jorrocks and collects Mayor, continues to Prince Charles’ statue.
12.20pm, participants form up at the newly re-paved Statue, for wreath laying and lament.
12.30pm, short service of reconciliation at Derby Cathedral (inc civilians)
They were amazing. The atmosphere they generated, like I said to spanky, 'they say you don't see a battle, you hear it...well I did not hear this gig, I felt it!' More then once I had a tear in my eye.

Saturday was the first AGM for the Regimente Irelondes d'Dillon!*
Was good fun, especially as it was Brett's birthday, and thus the meeting degraded to a pub lark about...
*A re-enactment group within the Lace Wars 18th Century re-enactment organisation. We portray the troops of the Dillons Regiment, part of the Irish Brigade that was made up of the Irish exiles from the fall of the Stuart monarchy who went into the French arm. Yesterday was...interesting. Spanky wanted some company as he went off to Nottingham to get tickets for a gig, so I tagged along. Which meant that, for the next 7 hours, we talked a complete load of nonsense and crap. Good times. And he bought me tickets to see Show of Hands with him on Thursday :)
We also started on two evile plots...the first is to send a demo to a radio station in Birmingham...They are looking for presenters, and we make a good pair. A pair of what, I don't know, but a pair none the less.
The other? All I can say is it involves mountains, and will require a stopover in Lincolnshire.
Today has been spent drilling in the rain, and watching anime: Yakitate Japan and Kuro Shitsuji
After Thursday's anime session, I decided to finally try downloading stuff to watch...I never bothered before...partly because I don't know how to torrent (I've never used it before and, while I could have just googled it, I worried that I might just stumble of the wrong thing and ruin my PC) and partly because I prefer to read rather then watch.
Anyway, last night, I decided I would finally try...I found a forum about anime and manga, and found that there were sites where I could view manga. I decided I'd take a look through those to see what things I like. I'm tempted to also use it to read stuff series that I'm part way through but cannot afford to buy more of, at least until I have money and can buy the volumes properly...but guilt may stop me there...
At the same site, I found discussion threads about 3 of the anime shown on Thursday, and am looking through them to see if anyone has posted torrent links...it seems that on this forum, they do post links of fansubs, as long as it has not been licensed yet...
Anyone got any tips on what to look for/where to look?
Off to town in a bit, to go to the Cathedral...the Charles Edward Stuart re-enactments society is having it's main event in December, and part of it is a service at the Cathedral. I happen to be the only person who was at Tuesday's meeting who would not be at work today, and thus available to sign off on the plan for it. Problem is, I have not been able to get to the previous year's events, so I don't know what it is meant to have! So if this all goes wrong, blame me! I do atleast have a copy of last year's prayer book leaflet thing so I have some idea of what the service is meant to have.
I'll try and keep this thing updated from now on...and will fill in on what's been happening over the last 6 months or so.
